A One-Night Vegas Poker Getaway: What the Whole Trip Costs

POKER TRAVEL · ONE-NIGHT GETAWAYS

One night in Las Vegas can work for a nearby traveler with a simple plan. Start with the time you actually get there, choose one poker room, and compare the complete trip before booking.

Keep the trip compact: one area, one overnight stay and enough time to enjoy it.

A low room rate is only the beginning of a Vegas budget. Flights, mandatory hotel charges, meals and the ride home all matter, especially when you are spreading those costs over just one night. A short stay works best when getting there is easy and the poker fits around a sensible sleep and return plan.

The quick answer: consider one night if you live nearby, have a comfortable drive, or can take a short nonstop flight with useful arrival and departure times. For a longer journey such as Baltimore/Washington to Las Vegas, price a two- or three-night trip alongside it. A cheap ticket can still leave too little time on the ground.

When one night makes sense

Write down your door-to-door schedule before looking at hotels. Include the trip to your departure airport, check-in and security, the flight, arrival transportation, and the same steps on the way home. Flight times alone leave out a large part of the journey. A one-night hotel booking can even involve three calendar days if the return flight is overnight.

  • A good fit: a local staycation, a manageable regional drive with a rested return, or a short nonstop trip that leaves an afternoon, an evening and an unhurried morning.
  • Compare a longer stay: a connection, a late arrival followed by an early departure, a long-haul flight, or plans that depend on a tight turnaround after a late session.
  • Allow more time for a tournament: check the actual structure and every possible playing day. A festival date range or a tournament start time does not tell you when your event will finish.

For WSOP and WPT events, use our WSOP trip-planning guide or WPT travel guide. Those trips often need more flexibility than a one-night getaway.

Compare every part of the trip

Start with the final booking total and inspect its breakdown. If taxes or mandatory fees are already included, do not add them again. Check whether anything remains payable at the property.

CostWhat belongs in your comparison
FlightsRound-trip price for the same dates, passenger count and usable schedule. Add the bags, seats and other options you actually need.
Getting to your airportRound-trip transit or rides, or parking for the complete time your vehicle is there. One hotel night does not necessarily equal one airport parking day.
HotelRoom charge, resort or destination fee, taxes and any extra-person charge. Match occupancy, room type and cancellation terms.
Las Vegas transportationBoth airport transfers, trips to the poker room and any late-night return. Include tips and applicable surcharges in your allowance.
Driving or renting a carRound-trip fuel or charging, tolls and hotel parking. For a rental, add the final rental total, any insurance you choose and fuel. Check charges at other venues too.
Food and extrasMeals, water, coffee, tips, entertainment and any luggage-storage or late-checkout charge you choose.
Money held temporarilyRoom deposits and incidental authorizations may reduce available funds. Keep them visible separately from the final trip expense.

Keep a separate travel reserve. A delay can mean another meal, a different ride or an extra night. The right amount depends on your route and the bookings you can change.

Published charges worth checking before you book

These are published policy examples checked on October 14, 2026. They are not room or flight offers, and eligibility exceptions can apply.

  • Excalibur’s reservation terms list a $45 nightly resort fee plus tax. Bellagio’s terms list $55 plus tax. Both state that lodging tax applies to the room and resort fee; qualifying reservations may have a fee waiver.
  • MGM’s parking page lists $20 daily self-parking for registered hotel guests at the listed Las Vegas resorts. Other rates and special-event terms can differ. Check the terms for your arrival and departure times.
  • RTC’s visitor fares list an $8 Strip and All Access 24-hour pass per person. Plan the actual airport and hotel routes, transfers and walking before relying on it. A pass must remain valid for your last ride.
  • Southwest’s mainland baggage policy lists a $45 first checked bag each way for Basic, Choice and Choice Preferred tickets booked, ticketed or changed on or after April 9, 2026. That is $90 round trip without an applicable exception. A permitted carry-on and personal item are included.

Airline bag rules depend on the fare, ticket date and traveler’s benefits. Check both directions. For an overnight trip, packing within your included allowance can make a meaningful difference.

A worked budget for one night

Illustration only, prepared October 14, 2026. The following figures demonstrate the calculation. They are not live quotes, average prices or offers for any travel date. No room or flight has been checked for availability at these amounts. All figures are in U.S. dollars.

The hotel example assumes an $80 room charge, a $45 resort fee and 13.38% lodging tax on both. That gives a $141.73 room total after rounding. The 13.38% tax is an illustrative assumption; taxes vary by location and can change. Use the selected hotel’s actual checkout total.

Illustrative fly-in trip · one room · one night · no rental car
Assumed expenseOne adultTwo adults sharing
Round-trip flights at $180 each$180.00$360.00
Baggage and seat extras$0.00$0.00
Home-to-airport return transportation$30.00$30.00
Room, resort fee and assumed tax$141.73$141.73
Two Las Vegas airport transfers$70.00$70.00
Hotel-to-poker-room transportation$0.00$0.00
Meals, water and tips$65.00$130.00
Total trip expense$486.73$731.73
Per person$486.73$365.87*

*Rounded; split the final cent as needed. The sharing example assumes both adults take the same rides and the room rate allows two adults. $0 for bags and seats assumes your chosen fare includes what you need. $0 for venue transportation assumes a suitable walk or an on-property room. The $70 transfer figure is a planning allowance, not a taxi tariff or rideshare quote. No gambling, shopping, paid entertainment, contingency spending or refundable hotel holds are included.

What changes the answer? One $45 checked bag each way would add $90 per traveler to this example. A distant hotel that saves $30 but adds $40 in extra rides raises the trip cost by $10. Sharing a room helps with accommodation and rides, but each traveler still needs their own airfare, meals and playing budget.

If you drive, replace the flight and airport-transfer rows with the full driving cost and parking. If you compare two nights, add the second hotel night and its fees, meals and any extra transport, then recheck the airfare. A longer stay may spread the journey cost over more usable time, even when it costs more overall.

Choose the poker room before the hotel

For a short visit, choose one main room and a nearby backup. Check current games, stakes, buy-in requirements, waitlists and the route from your hotel. A casino property name does not tell you how long it takes to reach the poker room.

  • Bellagio: its official poker page places the room on the north side of the casino beside the sportsbook and explains its call-ahead waitlist service. Confirm the game you want before making it the center of your trip.
  • ARIA: the official room page places poker on the east side of the casino near Main Valet Pick-up. It asks players to check directly for the latest daily-tournament information.
  • The Venetian: its poker room is at The Palazzo, level 2 of Grand Canal Shoppes. Use that entrance and route when comparing hotels, rather than assuming the room is near The Venetian’s main lobby.

A limited cash-game session can be easier to fit around a fixed departure than a tournament whose finish depends on the field and your progress. It still requires a firm stopping time. Do not plan to leave for the airport immediately after an all-night session.

Travel money and poker money stay separate. Set an amount you can afford to lose before the trip, including any permitted re-entries. Never count hoped-for winnings toward the flight, hotel or ride home. This guide is for adults 21 and over; carry valid government-issued photo identification and check each venue’s requirements.

A simple overnight plan

  1. Before leaving: confirm the room’s current games or event structure, your full hotel total, cancellation deadline and transportation plan. Save the route to the actual poker entrance.
  2. Arrival afternoon: drop your bag, eat and take a short walk. A morning flight does not guarantee morning room access. Excalibur, for example, lists standard check-in at 3 p.m. and checkout at 11 a.m.; other properties and selected rates can differ.
  3. Evening: enjoy dinner and your planned session. Leave time for waitlists and choose a latest finishing time that protects a full night’s rest.
  4. Next morning: breakfast, checkout and an easy departure. Confirm luggage storage if your flight is later. For a drive home, leave rested rather than stretching the session into the morning.

Before you call it a deal

  • Compare the same travel dates, room occupancy and baggage needs.
  • Read the final hotel total and any amount still due at the property.
  • Record the cancellation deadline, penalty and payment schedule for the exact rate.
  • Check incidentals, age and ID requirements before arrival.
  • Count usable time in Vegas, including sleep and the trip back.
  • Keep travel reserves and playing money outside the advertised trip total.
